The Challenge:
Addressing Hygiene and Workflow Risks from Card Reader Setups
Northwest Kidney Centers, established in Seattle, WA, needed a way to integrate card readers with their workstation-on-wheels (WOW) keyboards. Like many facilities, they use TapNGo authentication at clinical workstations to streamline access. However, their card readers were attached with Velcro or tape and often located where there was spare space on their WOWs. These improvised attachments weren’t secure and often left the card reader dangling off the side of the WOW cart.
Furthermore, Velcro and tape quickly degraded, collected debris, and posed a dangerous hygiene risk. In addition to these mounting concerns, Northwest Kidney Centers were also searching for a keyboard that was compact, durable and able to withstand their suite of disinfectants.

Northwest Kidney Centers deployed the Cleanwipe Pro keyboard with built-in CRM (Card Reader Mount) across their WOW carts as a dual solution. The keyboard features a waterproof, washable design that is compatible with hospital disinfectants, but it also securely integrates their existing card reader set-ups. Purpose-built for clinical settings, the Cleanwipe Pro gave staff the confidence to frequently clean, knowing they were not compromising durability or usability. The card reader stays fixed, stable, and upright for hygienic badge-based logins and allows the facility to utilize their existing fleet of TapNGo readers.

Additionally, it allowed the facility to reuse all their existing readers with this solution saving thousands of dollars. Other alternatives involved fully built-in keyboard solutions with card reader but this meant a lot of their existing readers would have become redundant.
