The Challenge:
Supporting AI-Driven Clinical Workflows While Protecting Shared Devices
As Tampa General Hospital accelerated its digital transformation, artificial intelligence became a cornerstone for improving clinician productivity and patient care. The hospital deployed more than 60 AI-powered applications, including Microsoft Copilot, ambient clinical documentation, and AI-driven workflow tools to reduce administrative burden and return valuable time to physicians and nurses.
This rapid expansion of AI also significantly increased the number of shared technology and devices throughout the hospital. New clinical workflows introduced thousands of mobile devices, including iPads for interpreter services, laptops, and smartphones used by clinicians, along with thousands of workstations supporting AI-enabled applications.
With more shared devices moving between patients, departments, and clinicians, maintaining effective infection prevention became increasingly important. The hospital needed technology that would not only support AI-powered workflows but also enable fast, consistent sanitization of high-touch devices without slowing clinical operations.
As awareness of infection prevention increased following COVID-19, parents of immunocompromised pediatric patients expressed concerns about mobile devices entering patient rooms. The hospital needed a fast, reliable solution that would allow staff, students, clinicians, and visitors to sanitize their devices before entering sensitive care areas – helping reduce contamination risks without disrupting clinical workflows.
The Solution:
AI-Ready Workstations Paired with Comprehensive Device Sanitization
To support its expanding digital ecosystem, Tampa General Hospital standardized on Seal Shield’s infection prevention solutions across clinical environments.
Healthcare professionals utilize Seal Shield’s Cleanwipe Pro and Seal Silk Pro washable keyboards, selected for their comfortable typing experience, sealed design, and smooth surface that allows faster and more effective cleaning than traditional keyboards. The keyboards support the hospital’s Windows 11 rollout and AI-enabled workstations while simplifying routine disinfection.

For shared mobile technology, Tampa General implemented the ElectroClave™ UV Sanitization System as part of its device management workflow. Before the organization’s iPads, smartphones, laptops, and other mobile devices are issued for clinical use, they are sanitized using the ElectroClave to reduce cross-contamination risk for both patients and healthcare staff.
Together, Seal Shield’s washable peripherals and UV sanitization technology provide an integrated infection prevention strategy that complements the hospital’s continued investment in AI, mobility, and digital transformation.
We're using the ElectroClave to sanitize devices before each patient use. It's protecting not only our patients, but our staff as well.

The Impact
Enabling Safe AI Adoption While Improving Clinical Efficiency
By combining AI-powered clinical technologies with standardized infection prevention, Tampa General Hospital has expanded digital workflows while maintaining high standards for device hygiene across the organization.
Today:
- More than 60 AI applications support hospital operations.
- Over 1,100 physicians use ambient AI documentation, processing approximately 9,000 patient encounters each week.
- AI documentation pilots save nurses more than one hour per shift, giving them more time for patient care.
- Shared AI-enabled devices are routinely sanitized with the ElectroClave, helping reduce cross-contamination risks while keeping technology readily available for clinical use.
- Staff also observed a reduction in employee sick calls after integrating routine device sanitization into daily workflows.
As Tampa General continues expanding its AI initiatives, Seal Shield solutions help ensure the devices powering smarter, faster care can be cleaned quickly, consistently, and confidently. By integrating infection prevention into AI-enabled workflows, the hospital supports clinician productivity, protects shared technology, and creates a safer environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
