The Challenge:

Visibility, Cleanability, and Workflow Efficiency

Moffitt Cancer Center faced multiple frustrations with its legacy computer screen protectors. Cleaning monitors was often delayed until dirt was visible, leaving room for variability in hygiene compliance. PDI Super Sani-Cloth wipes were the standard in the cleaning process, and staff in Special Contact Rooms relied on bleach-based disinfectants. These harsh cleaning cycles often degraded older screen materials faster.

Additionally, the protectors were often darker than expected, making it difficult for clinicians to view critical on-screen details. Staff frequently peeled them away to restore clarity, which, in turn, created recurring work for the IT team, who had to reinstall replacements. Ill-fitting protectors—sometimes extending beyond the screen edges—were prone to catching or hanging loose, tempting staff to pick at them further. These visibility issues were amplified by Moffitt’s mixed technology environment, including both Windows and Apple screen sizes. Each non-standard fit increased the likelihood of peeling and rework.

Beyond screen protection, the traditional keyboards in use weren’t washable or designed to withstand repeated cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants. The team needed peripherals that could tolerate frequent wipe downs without compromising functionality.

Recently, in perioperative areas, sanitizing personal belongings like phones and keys became a growing concern. Moffitt found need for a reliable, quick-cycle sanitization method to supplement routine cleaning.

The Solution:

Washable Keyboards and Computer Screen Protectors: A Comprehensive Infection Control Strategy

Moffitt Cancer Center deployed Seal Shield’s Clean Seal Screen Protectors, washable keyboards and mice, and the ElectroClave™ UV sanitization system as part of a comprehensive hygiene initiative to solve their peeling and cleaning issues.

Employing a permanent adhesive in favor of magnetic attachments permitted Clean Seal Screen Protectors to stay securely in place. These protectors were custom cut to match each device’s dimensions, preventing the peeling and previous overhang issues. Clean Seal Computer Screen Protectors offered a fingerprint proof design, helping to maintain crystal-clear visibility while preserving touchscreen sensitivity. With the improved visibility and precision fit, staff stopped picking at desktop screens, which eliminated a recurring source of IT frustration.

Seal Shield’s washable keyboards and mice were implemented facility-wide and across all workstations on wheels (WOWs). Ranging from IP66 to IP68 ratings, they withstood routine wipe downs from hospital-grade disinfectants. In the breakroom, Moffitt deployed the ElectroClave™, a UV-C sanitization system designed for high-touch electronic devices. The UV sanitizer provided a consistent, chemical-free method of sanitizing their high-touch personal items such as phones and keys. The system supports their daily infection control protocols with touch-free convenience and hospital-grade UV-C efficacy.

The Impact:

Streamlined Processes and Measurable Time Savings

Labor Hours Saved

Since adopting Seal Shield’s solutions, Moffitt Cancer Center has observed workflow improvements. A total of 300 Clean Seal Computer Screen Protectors have been deployed across the facility. With installation previously taking an average of 15 minutes per device, eliminating the need for reinstallations has saved over 75 labor hours for the IT team. That time savings translates directly into improved productivity and reduced device downtime, while the screen protectors’ scratch protection and durability ensures consistent visibility and cleanability across clinical units.

Seal Shield’s washable peripherals are in use across departments, medical carts, and the new Moffitt campus. They have simplified cleaning routines and reinforced infection prevention standards.  Combined with the ElectroClave’s UV sanitization, Moffitt Cancer Center has strengthened its multi-layer approach to hygiene, ensuring the cleanliness of its technology assets.

Meeting hygiene standards at Moffitt requires both solutions engineered for healthcare environments and consistent cleaning habits among staff. The team found that success depended as much on product durability as on daily discipline. Units with structured cleaning routines, whether end-of-day checklists or weekly wipe downs, saw success in maintaining hygiene compliance, meeting Moffitt’s infection prevention goals, and protecting the health of patients and staff.

"Meeting hygiene standards is a two-fold process as it takes solutions built for healthcare and good hygiene habits on the part of staff."
