The Challenge:
Improving Infection Prevention Protocols across High Touch Point Devices
Advocate Christ Medical Center, a leading healthcare facility located in Oak Lawn, Illinois, prioritized improving their infection prevention protocols especially for high touchpoint devices. When sourcing new carts, they identified cleanability as a top concern. With hundreds of carts in constant use across departments, Advocate needed peripherals able to withstand routine disinfection.
Beyond their peripheral needs, Advocate Christ Medical Center also sought to enhance safety and convenience in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) especially at their hand washing stations and family areas. Recognizing the importance of protecting their most vulnerable patients, the team wanted an easy and rapid sanitization system for parents and staff to sanitize mobile devices and other personal belongings before entering sensitive areas.
The Solution:
Waterproof Peripherals & Rapid UV Sanitization
Advocate Healthcare ultimately chose Seal Shield’s line of medical-grade, washable keyboards and mice to pair with their rollout of new EVA medical carts. Advocate Christ Medical Center alone implemented 400+ of the 2,000 keyboards purchased by the broader Advocate Healthcare. These washable peripherals were deployed across 400 medical carts used daily throughout the entire hospital from clinical areas, ICUs to in-patient units. Designed to endure frequent exposure to disinfectants, Seal Shield’s keyboards helped achieve the highest hygienic standards.
As a long-term customer, Advocate Christ Medical Center initially deployed the Cleanwipe keyboards across their fleet of WOWs. As of 2024, they upgraded their entire fleet to the new Cleanwipe Pro keyboards. A robust and fully submersible keyboard, the Cleanwipe Pro, designed for enhanced durability without sacrificing performance, aided Advocate in ensuring infection prevention and workstation longevity.
For the NICU, Advocate Christ adopted Seal Shield’s CleanSlate UV-C sanitization system for their ease of use and ability to quickly sanitize phones and tablets with over 99.9995% effectiveness against harmful pathogens such as C.diff and MRSA. Initially, 5 CleanSlate units were installed at the entrance, handwashing stations, nurses’ stations, and family room of the NICU. Parents appreciated the added peace of mind, while staff found CleanSlate to be a seamless addition to their hygienic protocols without disrupting workflows. The success of the initial deployment was so astounding that the number of CleanSlate UV systems in use across Advocate Christ led the expansion to 50 devices across all areas of the hospital.
